Description

Saint Theodore was born in Constantinople to wealthy and pious Christian parents. When he was old enough, he left everything behind and entered a monastery in Thrace, west of Constantinople.

He rejected his former comfortable lifestyle and wore only an uncomfortable hair shirt, from which he received his name, Trichinas ("hair-shirt wearer"). He also slept on a stone, which helped him avoid comfort and from sleeping too much. Theodore received the power to perform miraculous healing.

He reposed around the turn of the fifth century, and became one of the most revered saints of Orthodox monasticism. Saint Theodore is commemorated on April 20.
