Description

Saint Theodore was born out of wedlock in Sykeon of Galatia. When he was a child, his mother gave him a soldier's belt, and told him he would be a soldier. The Great Martyr George then appeared to her and told her that God had a different plan for her son. When he grew up, he made a pilgrimage to the Holy Land. After returning home to Galatia, Theodore joined the brotherhood of a monastery.

In 584 he was elected bishop of Anastasiopolis. Desiring to return to life in the monastery, after 10 years he requested retirement, which was granted on the condition that he would remain in the rank of bishop rather than a simple monk.

Theodore was given the power to work miracles and to cast out demons. He was often called upon to travel to various places and work miracles and give strength to the Christians.

He fell asleep in the year 613, and his feast is celebrated on April 22.
