This deësis (supplication) icon was painted in the 13th century. Icons of this type usually appear in a row on either side of an iconostasis, with saints facing Christ, Who is enthroned above the holy doors.

  • I love this icon.

I bought this beautiful icon some time ago and just realised I hadn’t left a review. Well, I have looked at so many icons of Mary but none really touched my heart - until I saw this one. I find that her eyes speak to me. They tell me of her sorrow but also of her complete understanding of our suffering. This is the only icon I have seen where Mary does that. I bought a small one so I can carry it with me. To me, it is the most “alive” icon I have ever seen. It is beautiful and beautifully presented by Legacy Icons.

I recently bought this icon, as a Mother's Day gift, for my fiance. It's really nice.
