Description

This deësis (supplication) icon of the Theotokos was painted in the 13th century. Icons of this type usually appear in a row on either side of an iconostasis (prayer screen), with saints facing Christ, Who is enthroned above the holy doors. 

Painted in vivid color and detail, the anonymous iconographer captured the earnestness and fidelity of Christ’s mother in her intercessions for His Church.

    I love this icon.

    I bought this beautiful icon some time ago and just realised I hadn’t left a review. Well, I have looked at so many icons of Mary but none really touched my heart - until I saw this one. I find that her eyes speak to me. They tell me of her sorrow but also of her complete understanding of our suffering. This is the only icon I have seen where Mary does that. I bought a small one so I can carry it with me. To me, it is the most “alive” icon I have ever seen. It is beautiful and beautifully presented by Legacy Icons.
