Wonderful Product, though not my personal favorite

Posted by Raphael on Mar 4th 2023

Received this with my incense burner, smells wonderful, reminds me of St. Nicholas, where I was Baptised. But ended up mixing it with a kernel of Myrrh for some sweet notes and was blown away. Good Product, gotta be careful with the smokeless Burner as it does become gloopy and hard to clean if not properly heated. Though next time I am buying the pre mixed Myrrh and Frankincense.

    A favorite

I have purchased samples of several incenses over the years and have settled on Legacy as my go to source. This one is in the top two currently available for me. It offers a great contrast to The Protection of the Theotokos during the live stream of the Divine Liturgy. It's presence is stronger without overwhelming your home church worship. I like to use it during the Great Entrance as it lass for awhile as we reach the climax of the Liturgy.

The first Legacy Icons product to disappoint

Posted by M. Evans on Feb 7th 2019

I’ve used over a dozen incenses from Legacy Icons, and they usually range from the good, to the very good, to the positively sublime. Sadly, this is the first product I’ve tried that just really fell flat. I’m not sure if I’m doing something wrong, or if I got a bad batch, or what might’ve happened, but the North African frankincense seems to produce a small amount of pleasant smell followed almost immediately by the distinctive scent of something burning. I will continue to buy my incense from Legacy Icons, but my jar of North African frankincense will likely spend the rest of its days gathering dust on a shelf or will be given away. ----- Legacy Icons Response: After receiving a few mediocre reviews, we quality-tested the North Africa Frankincense and found that it is burning normally. The fragrance does change as the incense burns, and this is normal. (It is usually not noticed as much in church settings because of the larger space for smoke to dissipate in.) If the incense does take on an unwanted odor over time, we would recommend removing the incense from the coal with tongs before this happens. The sweeter fragrance will linger for a long time in a household setting. You could also try placing a scrap of foil on the coal and placing the incense on the foil to insulate the incense from direct heat and slow down the burning process. The smaller grains of Desert Gold Frankincense might also produce a better result for you.

    Seems old

Posted by Becky on Feb 4th 2019

Like another reviewer I find this frankincense to lack the pungency of fresh frankincense. Which is a shame as it is one of nature's great gifts to us. ---- Note from Legacy Icons: All our resin incenses are sold dried, for stable long-term storage. Incense is intended to be used with a heat source, such as charcoal, to release the fragrance. Being an organic, natural product, each tree's sap will smell different, and some will be stronger than others. We have no control over how the sap is collected. Legacy Icons' North Africa Frankincense is the main incense used at our parish, and it is much enjoyed by our priest and parishioners.

    The Real Thing

Posted by Pastor on Jan 24th 2018

I like to use frankincense and myrrh for "show and tell" with my students. I crush a pebble of sap with a pliers and put the crumbs in my hand so that they can smell it without risking anyone being allergic to burning it. They really enjoy it, and it helps to lock into their minds the value of the gifts. I had my own frankincense for years, and it finally just too hard and the scent was gone. This frankincense is pretty old, too. There is very little scent to it when I crush a piece with pliers. Makes me suspect that it's been around for quite a long time, and the stock needs to be refreshed. ---- Note from Legacy Icons: All resin incenses are sold dried, for stable long-term storage. Amazing quality!

Great scent, and it's incredible how well it burns. I will say, I am fairly new to burning incense, however, from what I've experienced, this seems to be the best quality out there, and at a great price!

    Best Possible Quality

Posted by Ryan Porter on Apr 18th 2017

For the longest time I've only been able to burn those cheap Frankincense cones, and on rare occasions some cheap resins. I thought the smell was great, until I burned Legacy Icons' Frankincense resin. It's truly the best there is. The best part, it really does burn completely away. There is no build up of black tar on the coal. It's supper easy to simply put another piece of resin on and keep right on going. Their instructional video on their YouTube channel is the best out there. I love that they advise you to only burn a little at a time. They're really not interested in turning a profit by suggesting you "burn" through as much incense as possible. Legacy Icons wants you to have the best possible experience using incense. And, as far as Frankincense goes, you won't find a better quality resin than what Legacy Icons offers!

One of the Best I've Burned!

Posted by John (Michigan) on Nov 12th 2016

This is one of the richest, most luxurious Frankincense resin I've ever burned (and I've burned a lot of it!). I've found that this resin is very powerful at clearing negativity and unbalanced forces from the home, chapel, church, or meditation space. I've been burning this type of resin in my areas for many, many years now and this North African Frankincense is very high quality; its fragrance is very deep, concentrated, and lush without being overpowering. In fact, I just ordered "Hand-Gathered Myrrh" and "Tropical Copal" from Legacy and I cannot wait to mix those 2 with this amazing Frankincense. (**Thank you Legacy Icons for making such high quality incense!). God Bless!

    Good stuff! Very satisfied!

Posted by Ward Shrake on Jul 5th 2016

I'm pretty new to the whole idea of burning incense at home, and am starting off slow. A friend who is more familiar with the processes told me to try some, and I did. I'll be back! It definitely adds a nice feel to the house.
