This beautiful icon from Saint Catherine's Monastery on Mount Sinai is a depiction of the Theotokos as the Burning Bush seen by Moses—as she held within herself the Fire of Divinity, Christ, without being consumed. The Bush is interpreted as a type or foreshadowing of the Incarnation of Christ.
Moses is seen kneeling with his sheep at the bottom. There are two other scenes from Moses' life which took place on mountaintops: receiving the Ten Commandments in the top center, and his burial in the upper right corner.
The icon was painted in the 17th century.
