This beautiful example of Western iconography is a manuscript illumination from the Lindisfarne Gospels, produced in England in the early 8th century. Saint Matthew is depicted writing his Gospel. The angel is a symbolic representation of the Evangelist, based on the prophecy of the four living creatures in Ezekiel.
Saint Matthew's feast day is celebrated on November 16.

Wonderful for my work
I'm an accountant by trade, and I ordered this icon to have on my desk at work. I am very happy with the quality of it. My priest even commented on how well made it is.

A beautiful reminder
I bought this icon for my husband for Christmas after we traveled to Lindisfarbe last summer. This icon is a beautiful reminder of our trip. I was very pleased with the quality of the piece and the timeliness of the delivery. I will definitely be a returning customer!

Disappointed
I love the illuminations in the old manuscripts written by monks
etc. They are works of art in themselves. That is the only reason
I ordered this Icon. I ordered it in 3x4 size so I could group it with other small ones. The Icon I received had all the lines that frame the image and make it appear as an illumination cut off. So I am very disappointed in it ~ it did not come as advertised.
[Legacy Icons response: Unfortunately the dimensions and composition of some icons do not allow us to fit every image into every one of our board sizes. Rather than severely distort the image by "stretching" it to fit, we are instead forced to crop a select few of our icons at the 3x4 and Mini sizes.] -
Super Cool
Super Cool icon in a neat style. Quality of print/construction is top notch. The colors of this icon are striking and the style draws the viewer in. This one gets the most complements of them all at our church. Looks very crisp and clear in the Large size.
