This beautiful icon depicts the Lord's first miracle at the Wedding of Cana, where He turned the water into wine and, in the words of the Orthodox Wedding service, He "declared marriage to be an honorable estate."
Icons of the Wedding at Cana are often given as gifts to newly-married couples, and this one is extra special. In it, the Lord blesses the husband and wife as they enter into their sacred union. The Theotokos stands close by, offering a gesture of prayer to Christ, as she is quick to intercede for husbands and wives throughout their married life and the struggles they are sure to face.
The words of the Wedding Prokeimenon are inscribed around the border as a reminder of the sacred wedding crowns and God's blessing: "You have set upon their heads crowns of precious stone. They asked life of You and You gave them length of days. You shall bless them for ever and ever."

Beautiful Icon!
I love this particular writing of the wedding at Cana. The icon is well rendered in the print, and I plan to purchase another one for another wedding later this summer.
Thanks! -
The icon itself was of excellent quality and finish.
It is a sweet little icon that I gave to my daughter for her wedding last week. I was looking for an Ethiopian icon of this but they are hard to find. I loved this one because of the saying written around it.
