This icon features the Theotokos offering a flower to Christ. According to tradition, the flower represents the Virgin's purity and sweetness, offered as a sacrifice in order to give birth to the Son of God. This icon is celebrated on April 3rd.
This is a beautiful and unusual depiction of the Virgin Mary and the Infant Christ the King amidst a lush garden of flowers. It speaks to me of all of nature redeemed; and in winter reminds me of Spring, which it celebrates in months to come. It’s a visual bouquet for our Savior and Lady.
It arrived with minor damage in shipping (the only time this has happened) and Legacy sent me another, giving me the option of return or respectful disposal of the damaged one, even advising how.
I will say there’s quite a bit going on here compared to the sparer style we usually see in icons. This is not a criticism; I just wished I had ordered a large so the details could be better appreciated at a greater distance. This is one of the most beautiful icons I have ever seen.
This is a unique and beautiful icon. I bought the smallest size since I travel often. I may give it as a gift in the future because it’s so unique and attractive.
