Description
This icon is one of the great treasures of the New Valaam Monastery in Finland. The wonderworking icon features the Theotokos standing on a cloud, holding Christ, in the Hodegetria ("she who shows the way") style.
The icon was painted at Valaam Monastery in Russia in a naturalistic style that was popular in the late 19th century. It survived the two World Wars and was taken to Finland for safe-keeping, where it remains today. In 1987, the Church of Finland established its feast day on August 7.

Lovely icon though very dully finished, not as high a gold as in the sample photos. Also, promised discount not applied. Techno/behemoth umbrella under which Legacy Icons operates makes false promises Legacy Icon does not keep. That's a problem, amigos.
