Description
This icon was painted at Saint Catherine's Monastery at Mount Sinai in the 6th century. It depicts the Virgin holding Christ, with Saints George (right) and Theodore the General standing by, along with two angels.
Due to the remote location of the monastery, this icon survived the iconoclasm of the 8th century, and is one of the oldest and best-preserved icons from the early Church in existence.

Sinai's beauty brought home
A beautiful icon of the Mother of God. Grateful to have it with me in my office.
