Saint Cyrus was from Alexandria of Egypt. He attended university and became a physician, treating his patients free of charge and healing miraculously in the name of Christ. Under the persecutions of Diocletian, he fled to the Persian Gulf to join a small monastery. He continued to perform miraculous healings.
Saint John was from Edessa of Mesopotamia. He was a military doctor, and when he heard of Cyrus' fame, he left his career and became a monk.
When the persecutions intensified, the two saints traveled to Canopis to encourage the Christians in prison. They were arrested and tortured, but their faith inspired the other Christians to remain steadfast. They were finally beheaded in the year 311. In the fifth century, their relics were translated to Rome, and later to Munich.
Their feast is celebrated on January 31.
