Description

Saint Photeini (also known as Photina, Photine, Photini, or Svetlana) was the Samaritan Woman met by Christ in John 4. Their conversation is the longest recorded dialogue between Christ and a single person.

She had had five husbands and was living with a man who was not her husband. When the Lord revealed that He knew everything about her, she was amazed and called Him a prophet. He then told her the truth, that He was the Messiah. Photeini went and told the people of her town about Christ, and many Samaritans believed in Him.

After the events recorded in the Gospel, she continued to spread the Good News in many places, together with her two sons and five sisters. They suffered persecution and torture under Nero, and were martyred in the year 66.

Saint Photeini is commemorated on February 26 in the Byzantine tradition, on March 20 in the Slavic tradition, and on the Sunday of the Samaritan Woman: the fifth Sunday of Pascha.

    Beautifully made

Posted by TNail on May 5th 2021

I was surprised by how well-crafted this is. I watched the videos about how the icons are made, but I couldn't appreciate the exquisite workmanship that went into it until I held it in my hands. It really is beautiful.
