Saint John Climacus ("of the Ladder") is depicted as a hermit, writing his well-known book The Ladder of Divine Ascent, which is a staple of monastic thought and teaching.
He is commemorated on March 30 and on the fourth Sunday of Lent in the Orthodox Church.
