This 15th century icon shows Christ with his Apostles, who are talking amongst themselves in shock at the revelation that one of them would betray Christ. Judas, the betrayer, is seen reaching his hand into a bowl as the Gospel says. At this Passover meal, Christ instituted the most holy sacrament of the Eucharist.
It is traditional that an icon of the Mystical Supper is given to a newly-married couple. This icon is sometimes placed in the dining room of Orthodox homes.
