In this 18th century Russian icon, we see the Virgin Theotokos weeping at the Cross of her Son, Jesus Christ. The icon shows her maternal sadness, yet her right hand is raised in a gesture of prayer and worship, demonstrating that Christ is both the Son of her flesh and the eternal God.
