Christ The Healer (Whirledge) Icon - X190

As the Savior of mankind, Christ accomplished countless miracles of healing the sick and broken — in body and in spirit. In His boundless love, Christ ministered to the suffering, even to the point of dying on the cross to heal the brokenness of the whole world.

Painted by the hand of iconographer Brian Whirledge, this icon recounts in visual form several of the healing miracles of Christ. In the border surrounding this central group are depicted the saints who served as miraculous healers throughout the ages. In clockwise order from the upper right, they are: the Evangelist Luke, Nektarios, Cosmas & Damian, Cyrus & John, Panteleimon, Luke the Surgeon, Sophia, Zenaida & Philonela, Hermione, Anastasia, Anna, and Mary the Theotokos.

Beneath the icon is inscribed a prayer for healing: "O Almighty Master, Physician of souls and bodies, Who humbles and raises up, Who chastises and again heals, do Thou forbid the spirit of sickness. Heal every wound, every infirmity, every sore, every fever, every pain and seizure. Yea, O Lord, be merciful unto Thy creation, in the name of Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen. ✚”
