Description
On February 15, 2015, the Moslem terrorists of Islamic State (ISIS or ISIL) executed these 21 Coptic Orthodox men for their Christian faith. The video which showed the brutal beheadings called them "people of the cross, followers of the hostile Egyptian Church." Six days later, the martyrs were glorified by Coptic Orthodox Pope Tawadros II. He established their feast day on Amshir 8 (February 15).
This icon was painted by Tony Rezk in the Neo-Coptic iconographic style. The martyrs are wearing orange jumpsuits, as they were dressed at the time, and they are kneeling on the Mediterranean coast. The water is red with their blood, and 21 crowns of martyrdom descend from heaven.
Mr. Rezk invites people to visit copticorphans.org if they would like to make a donation to help the families that these and other martyrs leave behind.
