Description
On February 15, 2015, the Moslem terrorists of Islamic State (ISIS or ISIL) executed these 21 Coptic Orthodox men for their Christian faith. The video which showed the brutal beheadings called them "people of the cross, followers of the hostile Egyptian Church." Six days later, the martyrs were glorified by Coptic Orthodox Pope Tawadros II. He established their feast day on Amshir 8 (February 15).
This icon was painted by Tony Rezk in the Neo-Coptic iconographic style. The martyrs are wearing orange jumpsuits, as they were dressed at the time, and they are kneeling on the Mediterranean coast. The water is red with their blood, and 21 crowns of martyrdom descend from heaven.
Mr. Rezk invites people to visit copticorphans.org if they would like to make a donation to help the families that these and other martyrs leave behind.

Didn't expect the Power.....
I didn't expect the power the image gives off; it's beautifully painted. And what I love even more is that on the back of the icon is a list of the Coptic fishermen who were martyred; I now can pray their names every night.

A good reminder
I chose this icon out of respect for the Coptic witness of Jesus and His Gospel. 21 ordinary men who received the grace and had the guts to follow Jesus to the end! Respect!

Twenty-one Martyrs
A fine icon, even if signed, reminding one to pray for our Middle Eastern brothers and sisters in the Lord. There, but for the grace of God, go you and I.

A reminder to pray...
I have wanted this icon ever since I first saw it... to remind me of the courage of fellow Christians in the Middle East... an image to have before me on a daily basis inspiring me to pray for these persecuted people... to inspire me in their faith in Christ... even unto death... They are my heroes...

LOVE this icon
I love this piece of art & feel it a privilege to have this tribute honoring those lives given in Jesus' name. I love the design, vibrancy of the colors, all the details, the list of names on the back. It comes at a time in my studies that dovetails perfectly with the picture of Heaven and the martyrs in Revelation. What a fitting gift to these men of faith, their families & especially to the King of Kings and Lord of Lords, who is worthy of all honor, glory & praise. The one surprise I had with this icon was the thickness of the wood on which the canvas was mounted - I was thinking it would be about 1/4" rather than the 1". I would have preferred the thinner for hanging on the wall, but I love it so much that I don't mind.
