Description

The hodigitria (guide) genre of icons features Christ sitting on the Virgin's lap. Her hands point to her Son in a gesture of humility, guiding the viewer to look to Him. This icon always appears on the iconostasis in Orthodox churches, on the north side of the holy doors, to the right of Christ. This is reminiscent of Psalm 44, "At Your right hand stood the Queen."

This icon was painted by Athanasius Clark.

    Good

The icon is what I expected. My only complaint is that it has a lot of glare when exposed to direct sunlight.

    Wonderful as a set

Posted by Unknown on Oct 18th 2017

I purchased this icon along with the other Clark icons which go with this specific set. I have them all displayed on my icon wall, and with the uniform art and form, they add a special detail and balance which I was looking for in my own little church at home. I highly recommend this set.
