Also known in the West as "Our Lady of Sorrows", this icon is based on the prophecy of Saint Simeon the God-Receiver, who said at Christ's dedication in the Temple, "A sword shall pierce through your own soul as well." This icon is celebrated on February 2, the Feast of the Meeting of the Lord.
This icon is painted in the Russian "Academic" style, which was popular in the 17th to the early 20th centuries.

The first icon I purchased. None has ever grabbed my attention as this one has, and even then, the pictures do not do Her justice.
This icon is gorgeous, I absolutely love it. Serious 5 stars for just being so wonderfully made
The richness of the colors and the realism of this beautiful icon makes it seem like it was hand painted; I can’t take my eyes off this icon. It’s helped me with my prayers to the Theotokos. Excellent quality for the price.
