Description
This exquisite contemporary icon portrays the Theotokos (Virgin Mary) and the infant Christ. The icon’s stunning gold background sets off their vivid colors and loving detail. This traditional icon portrays the Theotokos as Hodegetria (“The Guide”) with her right hand pointing to her Son. It is a reproduction of the beloved “Quick to Hear” icon located in Dokheiariou Monastery on Mount Athos, Greece. The original was painted in the 11th century and is is renowned for the miracles associated with it and its importance in intercessory prayer throughout the world.
The feast day of this icon is celebrated on November 9.
Painted by the hand of iconographer Mark Fiorenzo, this contemporary Byzantine icon depicts the timeless glory of the Theotokos. It follows in the traditions of generations of iconographers and serves as “windows to heaven” and a support for prayer. It is faithfully reproduced from premium materials in the Legacy Icons woodshop in Zeeland, Michigan.
