$9.95

The original icon of the Theotokos the "Multiplier of Wheat" was painted in the 19th century at the blessing of St. Ambrose of Optina. He established October 15 as a day of celebration and prayer for a safe and fruitful harvest, saying the Mother of God is "a helper for people in their labors for the acquiring of their daily bread." Before his repose, St. Ambrose sent many copies of the icon to his spiritual children.

Through the icon, the Theotokos has interceded for many miraculous harvests, seasonable weather, and the lifting of drought. The icon is a patron of farmers, gardeners, and others who work the soil for their daily bread.

The traditional prayer before this icon, composed by St. Ambrose, is: Hail, Full of Grace, the Lord is with You! Grant unto us unworthy ones the dew of Your grace and the showing forth of Your mercy! Its feast is celebrated on October 15. This particular copy of the original icon was painted in the Ukraine in the 21st century.

Once again, I cannot say how much I love this particular icon print. I have other versions of this particular icon, but this one has grown to be my favorite. This is the second one of these icons that I have purchased here. The first one was given as a gift and I would not be surprised that the same may happen to this one as well. So I will keep coming back for more! Thank you so very much.

I have long had a devotion to Our Lady of the wheat or whatever' title this icon is given (there are many). But for many years the small Sofrino prints have been the only ones available, so it was nice to finally have a larger size available. The print is of high quality and the colors are vibrant. Alsi, I live in Kansas with huge wheat fields everywhere, and the background in the icon reminds me of home. Sometimes I even call this icon,Our Lady of Kansas. All in all a beautiful piece of art.
