Saint Tryphon Icon - S486

Product Description

Saint Tryphon (or Trypho) was from Lampsacus (modern Lapseki). He tended geese and was filled with the Holy Spirit, able to work powerful miracles of healing and exorcism.

He became a bold preacher of Christ during the reign of Emperor Decius, about the year 250. He was reported to the authorities, and he was severely beaten and tortured. Finally he was sentenced to beheading, but he gave up his soul to the Lord before the executioner could act.

Saint Tryphon is considered one of the Unmercenary Healers. His prayers are also traditionally invoked for birds (especially falconry) and the protection of crops from pests. He is commemorated on February 1.

The original of this icon was painted by Roman and Anna, a husband and wife iconography team in Moscow, Russia. Commissioned by Legacy Icons, we offer reproductions with the permission of the iconographers.
