Description

Saint Christopher of Lycia was a third-century martyr. Originally named Reprobus, the Roman authorities became aware of him when he converted a group of soldiers to Christ. He was baptized with the name Christopher, which means "Christ-bearer." This is why he is oftentimes depicted as literally carrying Christ. The saint was subjected to torture and martyred about the year 250.

Many miracles have been attributed to Saint Christopher's prayers, and his intercessions have been considered powerful for centuries. His feast is celebrated on May 9.

    Wonderful icon

This icon is perfect. I had been looking for one of my patron saint that wasn’t simply “Tall man in the distance” but showed him as a Christ-bearer. Even my priest loved this icon when I brought it to be blessed and asked where I got it.

This one just touches the heart!

This, to me, is an uncharacteristically emotional representation of both St. Christopher and Our Lord. I recommend it for a child's icon corner, as well as for the family site, generally, because this icon is deeply evocative on multiple levels.
