Description
The Kursk Root Icon is one of the most ancient icons of the Russian Church, dating to the 13th century. It is an icon of the Theotokos "of the Sign" and features around the border nine prophets who foresaw the birth of Christ.
The name "Kursk Root" is from the name of the Monastery where the icon resides. It was removed from its place several times in history, and each time it mysteriously returned to its original place. The icon is celebrated on September 8 and November 27.
