Description
This icon, known as the Hospitality of Abraham, depicts the Old Testament scene when Abraham and Sarah were visited by three angelic visitors who announced the birth of their son, Isaac. This scene is traditionally understood to be a prefigurement of the Holy Trinity, so this icon is also known as the Old Testament Trinity.
The icon of the Hospitality is a traditional focal point within the home, having a prominent place in the prayer corner or within the main room of the house. It teaches us to be mindful of the presence of our God, the Holy Trinity, and it also reminds us to be hospitable as Abraham and Sarah were.
As this icon is associated with the Trinity, it is often celebrated on Pentecost, also known as Trinity Sunday in the Orthodox Church.
This icon was painted by the hand of Mark Fiorenzo.
