Golden Amber features a rich, nutty fragrance with notes of coconut and deep chocolate and an earthy base. In our opinion, it actually sweetens as it burns, unlike many other incenses. The complex blend of natural resins and herbs burns incredibly clean. It starts smoking instantly, and as it melts, the incense seeps into the charcoal. There will be no ash or burnt odor left over at the end, and the unique fragrance continues to gently linger long after the smoke has ended.
Super-premium Amber incense is simply amazing. Though more expensive than our other incenses, this is not without good reason. Amber is extremely rich, and while it melts down relatively quickly, we find that its sweetness lingers in the air for much longer than other incenses—and without a burnt odor at the end. You do not need to use much, either. Just 0.1 or 0.2 grams (about the size of a small fingernail or a single piece of Athonite incense) will fill a home or small church.
Golden Amber comes in small rectangular cakes, in various size(s) depending on how much you order. It is dry but soft, and can be easily broken or cut into your desired sizes. Chunks may break apart in transit, but the resulting small pieces and powder are made of the same material and burn exactly the same way, so don't throw any out! It is sold purely by weight, not container size. Amber has a lower melting point than other incenses.
I was surprised by how much it smoked when I placed it on the charcoal (just a tiny piece, like the size of a grain of rice), but the smoke quickly dissipated, then filled the room with scent. The smell reminded me of peanut butter when burnt at first, but shifted into a softer, sweeter scent after a few minutes. It is definitely unlike any other incense I've used before, and there's no charred smell or anything as it's consumed. Oh, and it didn't set off my smoke alarm during use, either, which is a nice change.
I had to wait several months for this to reappear in the catalog. It is worth every moment of anticipation.
It has a beautiful smell.
Lots of smoke.
It is my favourite.
Amber is my favorite incense, I use it in my smokeless incense burner on a piece of foil, because it is very smoky on charcoal. The scent is more subtle, and the incense lasts longer as opposed to using charcoal. It is pricier but really worth it!
If you’re reading these reviews, it’s probably because you’re debating whether this admittedly pricey incense is worth a gamble. The answer is: yes and no.
In the “yes” column, this is without a doubt the most exquisite incense I have ever burned. You put it on the coal, it melts away into the coal in a matter of minutes, and it just pours out sweetness. An hour later, if you leave the room and then return, it’s still there, hanging in the air, welcoming you back.
So what could possibly go into the “no” column? Well, let me tell you. I’ve tried a dozen or so incense products from legacy icons. Most have been good, and some have been great. But after golden amber incense, everything else just disappoints. Athonite, resin, it doesn’t matter. Everything seems kind of “meh” and then ends with the smell of something burnt, after you’ve smelled their premium golden amber incense.
I guess my recommendation would be to try it, but only if you’re prepared to adopt an expensive new habit, because after this, it’ll be difficult to go back to whatever you were burning before. And whatever you do, order more than you think you’re going to need, because you’ll be wanting to burn this one every day.
