Christ the Bridegroom (Fiorenzo) Icon - X177

This exquisite contemporary icon portrays Christ as the Bridegroom. Each year during Holy Week, the Bridegroom Service is a key part of the days leading up to Pascha (Easter). This icon depicts the troparia and readings remembering his humility and love for his bride, the Church, as he prepares for the cross. Depicting Christ wearing the crown of thorns and holding a humble staff as a scepter, the Bridegroom icon captures His glory in the face of dishonor and mockery. The Greek letters of His halo and title glorify him as “Jesus Christ, Son of God” and “He Who Is.” While suffering, his face bears a calmness and peace that passes all understanding.

Painted by the hand of iconographer Mark Fiorenzo, this contemporary Byzantine icon depicts the timeless glory of Christ during his Passion.
