Description
This exquisite set of two Russian Neo-Byzantine style icons portrays the Theotokos (Virgin Mary) and the infant Christ in one and Christ as the glorified Son of God in the second. The icons’ stunning gold background sets off their vivid colors and loving detail. The Theotokos is portrayed in the traditional Hodegetria (“The Guide”) posture with her right hand pointing to her Son. The adult Christ holds the Book of Life (Revelation 20-21) in which every Christian’s name is written. As such, the first icon depicts the glorious mystery of Christ’s incarnation and the second His resurrection and eternal dominion.
While contemporary icons, they follow the style of generations of iconographers, serving as ‘windows to heaven’ and a support for prayer. Painted by the renowned Russian iconographer couple Anna and Roman Davidovskiy, these icons are faithfully reproduced from premium materials in the Legacy Icons woodshop in Zeeland, Michigan.
This set is an ideal centerpiece of a home prayer corner or even a parish chapel. Traditionally, the Theotokos and infant Christ icon occupies the left side of a prayer corner (or a parish’s iconostasis), and the glorified Christ icon the right side, with additional icons (e.g. patron saints, feast days) surrounding them.
