Lovely at first, but disappointed now.
I was baptized in 2017 and purchased this cross for myself. It was lovely when it arrived, and had I given a review then it would have been 5 star. But over the past year has turned greenish and the pewter finish has rubbed away revealing maybe copper or bronze underneath? I don't think it is stainless steel, or if it is its only a coating. I am disappointed because it really is a lovely cross, but now I am looking for a new one, and I don't want to purchase a second one from here in case the same thing happens again. I really hate to leave a bad review because I love everything else we've bought here. Legacy Icons Response: We are sorry for the bad experience with the cross you received. We reached out to the manufacturer and found out our budget-friendly crosses are made from German Silver, not stainless steel as we previously understood. This is an alloy of nickel, zinc, and copper. It is quite tarnish-resistant, but exposure to lots of moisture can cause tarnishing over time. Some people have a naturally high (acidic) skin PH that can also contribute to tarnishing. It is, however, less prone to tarnishing than other kinds of silver. As with all jewelry, regular cleaning and maintenance is important. Some people find that coating this kind of jewelry with clear nail polish or acrylic sealant can help preserve the finish. From your comment it sounds like you intend to look elsewhere for a replacement. We do have a new selection of Sterling Silver crosses you might consider.
