Description

This beautiful icon of Theophany (Epiphany) depicts Christ attended by angels and baptized by St. John the Forerunner in the River Jordan. Depicted in the Gospels as occurring before his temptations in the desert, this event marks the beginning of his revelation of his person and identity with the Trinitarian Godhead.
 
One of the twelve Great Feasts of the Orthodox Church (January 6), it is an annual reminder and means of connecting with our Savior as he "fulfills all righteousness" (Matthew 3:14) in order to triumph over our enemies in his resurrection.  
 
This contemporary Byzantine icon faithfully follows the canons of form and color to depict Christ's person and power.
