Description
The Prophet Baruch was the disciple and scribe of the Prophet Jeremiah. He accompanied Jeremiah in proclaiming his prophecies, and they lamented the fall of Jerusalem together. Baruch witnessed the stoning of Jeremiah, and he buried his body.
In his own book of prophecy, which is part of the Old Testament Septuagint, Baruch clearly prophesied the incarnation of God in Jesus Christ; for this reason, we read from his prophecy on Christmas Eve.
The Prophet Baruch is commemorated on September 28. This beautiful 17th century fresco is from the Slivnichki Monastery in Macedonia.
