Description
This beautiful and powerful Orthodox Christian icon is known as “Pantocrator”- Omnipotent, Almighty, All-Powerful. In the earliest days of the Christian worship, when Roman persecution swirled around the daily life of Orthodox Catholic Christians, the icon most often seen in the Catacombs was the Good Shepherd, the Lord who comforts His flock. Later, new threats came upon the maturing Church from outside as various invasions of barbarians- Huns, Vandals, Goths, and Muslims- threatened the homelands of many Christians who thirsted again for an emphasis on the Almighty God who sat enthroned as Emperor, Monarch, and Ruler. Thus, came about the Pantocrater icons, serving as reminders of God’s ultimate control of all human events and the eternity of His coming kingdom. As recorded in the book of Revelation: "'I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End', says the Lord, 'Who is and Who was and Who is to come, the Almighty ("Pantocrator")'" (Rev. 1:8, OSB).
The icon of Christ Pantocrator is often the most remote in atmosphere of all the conventional poses. In some icons, such as the famous Mount Sinai Pantocrater, Christ seems distant from us and His face is depicted in a stern or authoritative gaze. However, this is tempered by the hand He raises in blessing, granting peace and strength to the faithful, as well as the good news of salvation contained in the Gospels He holds.

Excellent product!
This is one of my favorite icons. Legacy Icons got it to me very quickly. It is solid, the base is thicker/sturdier than I thought it would be from the catalogue. The quality is very good, IMO. I would like to purchase more icons from Legacy Icons in future. Thanks, y'all, you do good work! :-)

Nice print, but a bit disappointed
I was a bit disappointed when I received the Icon. I expected the print it to be more smoothly attached to the wood. It seems like the corners of the print are already starting to chip only by taking it a few times out of the box to look at it and rapping it in paper for a present. I understand that for 40$ I can't be too picky but kind of expected it to be attached in a more inconspicuous way . I also thought that all the Icons were made on canvas and found out after I received my order that only the masterpiece type are done this way .I still like the website and would recommend to family and friends. (Legacy Icons Response: We are happy to replace an icon that arrives damaged, and the plastic bag should protect it from incidental damage when wrapping. Canvas is an option. If you have any problems with your order, please don't hesitate to use the form on our Contact page.)
