The Great Prophet and King David, who lived about the 11th century before Christ, is one of the great prefigurements of our Lord. One of his greatest contributions to the Christian faith is the book of Psalms; many of these hymns prophecy the coming of the Messiah and Savior of the world. Like all of us, David committed serious sins in his life, but his repentance is a model for us, and he is one of the most important Old Testament members of the Holy Church.
The Prophet David is commemorated by the Orthodox Church on the Sunday after Christmas.
