Temptation of Christ (Athos) Icon - F233

1 Customer Review Write a Review

After His baptism by John in the Jordan River, the Lord went out into the desert to pray and fast. After 40 days, He was physically weak and the Devil came to tempt Him.

First, he told the Lord to make stones into bread. Second, he took the Lord to the top of the Temple and told Him to throw Himself off. Third, he showed Him all the nations of the world and promised unmatched glory if the Lord would bow down and worship him. These three vices—hedonism, egoism, and materialism—were thwarted by the Lord, teaching us how to overcome the Devil when he tempts us.
