This beautiful fresco from the Stavropoleos Monastery in Romania, depicts the Fathers of the Ecumenical Council of Nicaea, where the Nicene Creed was written. Emperor St. Constantine the Great sits in the center, surrounded by the holy bishops, who hold a banner with the first words of the Creed on it.
The Fathers of this Council are commemorated on the Sunday before Pentecost, on May 29, and the first six Ecumenical Councils are all commemorated together on the Sunday between July 13 and 19.
This is a great icon which I bought in large which I think maybe the optimum size to buy it in.
I think the original maybe very old because there are lots of areas where the image has worn out but this only adds to the ancient mood it evokes.
