After the Lord's crucifixion, Joseph of Arimathea requested the Body of Jesus from Pilate. He wrapped the Body in a pure linen shroud and with the help of Nicodemus, laid it in Joseph's own tomb. The Virgin Mary, together with the faithful women disciples and John, followed the Lord to the very end. As evening and the Sabbath was approaching, they had to work quickly and leave the tomb before sunset. As the Synaxarion relates, the enemies of God then asked Pilate to seal the tomb.
