Knowing that our faith is linked to a series of visuals that demonstrate its soundness is a peaceful and quiet reassurance. Here we see that nearly 900 years ago the Cross of our Lord, the holy instrument of our salvation, was revered in this 12th century Russian icon. In this icon we see the Cross flanked by the Archangels Michael and Gabriel. In their hands are instruments representing the Passion: the sponge and lance. Hovering above them are the angelic host, the Cherubim and six-winged Seraphim.
My highest recommendation!

This is a stunning icon — Beautifully put together by Legacy Icons! I was afraid the surface might have a lifeless matte coating, or even be a bit shiny: but it has an attractive and delicate frost-like coating to protect the image, without compromising its clarity.
The wood is painted a rich gorgeous red. The image itself is distinct in line and vivid in its detail. The piece is a jewel!
I sigh every time I pass by it in my house. Not yet blessed by my priest, and yet it exudes a mystical holiness and a peace-filled silence. Heavenly.
