This fine quality Russian style prayer rope is hand-crafted by Russian Athonite monks from leather, featuring 33 "steps" and a red cross.
The Lestovka is the traditional Russian equivalent to the Greek knotted prayer rope. After the reforms of the 17th century, the Greek style became more popular in Russia, but Old Believers continued to use the traditional style. Today both styles can be found; Saint Seraphim of Sarov was known to use the leather Lestovka.
The steps are about 3/4 inch wide. The loop sits comfortably around four fingers while the thumb is used to advance through the steps as the Jesus Prayer is said.
Note: The Lestovka is not made of a stretchable material and is not intended to be worn as a bracelet. If you have larger hands, do not force it onto your wrist or you may damage it. Legacy Icons cannot replace this item if it is damaged by misuse.
