Iconographers of all times have worked to show in the image of the Theotokos as much beauty, gentleness, dignity, and grandeur as they could. They sometimes depict a hint of sadness, other times joy, but always spiritual strength and wisdom.
This icon dates to the early 15th century. The Theotokos represents the Church, displaying the fullness of love between God and man, a love that is achieved within the bosom of Mother Church. The Most Pure Lady is always shown with her head covered with a veil, dropping down to her shoulders. It is usually colored red, a symbol of royalty, suffering, and holiness.
Beautiful...and same quality I have come to expect from Legacy.

I bought several of the icon ornaments from Legacy to give as gifts at Nativity. While I was pleased with all of them, this particular one was my favorite of the lot. Very beautiful. I am always very satisfied with the quality of Legacy's work, whether I am purchasing large or small icons.
