The title of this icon, which is written in Slavonic across the top, comes from the Canon of Holy Saturday:
Do not weep for me, Mother, as you see Me entombed: the Son conceived seedlessly in your womb. For I shall arise and be glorified, and I shall ceaselessly glorify those who magnify you with faith and love.
The Lord's burial party lower Him into the tomb. The Myrrh-bearing Women stand to one side, and Sts. John and Joseph of Aramathea to the other.
