    I was drawn to this icon of the Crucifixion of Christ (Sinai) by the portrayal, not only of Christ’s agony, but also by the depiction of the humanity and suffering of the Theotokos who, collapsing at the foot of the Cross in grief and anguish, required the steadying hands of the women at her side who themselves were overcome with agonizing grief. For me, the message of this beautiful icon is understated and offers much upon which to mediate.
