To all our customers and those interested in the Gospel Book:
With sadness we must report that the much-delayed Gospel Book has been delayed once again.
We understand how incredibly frustrated you must be—and we are frustrated along with you. We know some of you are angry. Below you will find a complete account of what has happened in this project, the reasons for delays, and some recourse for those who need to receive their Gospel Book right away.
There has been a great deal of spiritual warfare associated with this project—we don’t say this lightly. We have the sense that the Enemy has been involved, and so we ask for your prayers as we continue in our mission to spread the Good News in the ways that we can.
The printers received the master files on July 27. When the proof (the fully printed “preview” copy) of the book was reviewed, it was found that the illustrations throughout the book had been printed gray, rather than red. After nearly two weeks of no solid answers, the project manager at the printers gave assurance that the book would print correctly, so it was approved.
The printers also had an accounting mix-up in August, where they lost record of all payments, which caused 1-2 weeks’ further delay. When it was shown that the printers had deposited the payments and it was an accounting error, they finally took the project off hold.
By this time, the delivery date had slipped from August 24 to September 7. In late August, the delivery date slipped again to September 14. And then to September 21. The printers could not give any specific details as to the nature of these delays, saying it was common for unexpected delays to occur in their facility. With each delay, the printers were asked to get the project back on track.
Last week, the delivery date slipped yet again, to September 25—and then again, to September 26. Last Thursday, the printers gave assurances that the Gospel Books would ship on Friday, September 21. The account manager sent photographs of the in-progress books just before the covers were to be put on.
Shockingly, the illustrations were printed incorrectly in the final books, as gray instead of red. When confronted, the printers did admit they made a mistake.
We are all incredibly frustrated about this process. It has been difficult to maintain a Christ-like attitude while dealing with these repeated setbacks. But we are representatives of Christ to everyone we deal with, including companies that disappoint us, so there is no room for responding in anger.
We could have simply accepted the books as-is and said, “better luck next time.” Some of you may not have even noticed the error. But we showed a great deal of concept art and in-progress images depicting the beautiful red illustrations, and it would be dishonest to not ship the product that you ordered, and that the donors invested in.
An agreement was reached with the printers, that we would accept 80 of misprinted books, with the covers put on, to ship this week. The printers will re-print the rest of the 1000 books originally ordered, but unfortunately, the re-prints will take another six weeks or so. Because of the complexities and scheduling involved in their 24/7 printing facility, it is apparently not possible to deliver them any sooner.
If You Need Your Book Right Now
If you don’t care about these color differences, within a few days we will have a very limited supply of 80 copies available for those who want them. The rest of the orders will be shipped when the re-print arrives. It will be worth the wait, but we understand that some people don’t want to wait any longer. Again, 100% of the text in these books is printed correctly. The misprinting is limited to the color of the headers and decorative illustrations only, which are gray instead of red.
If you want one of the misprinted copies, with gray illustrations rather than red, but is otherwise printed correctly, please send an email to: email@example.com and note the following:
1. Include your Legacy Icons order number in the subject line; or if you were a donor, your name and “Donor.”
2. In the body of the email, type “Please send the misprinted Gospel Book.”
3. Close with your name as given in your Legacy Icons order.
By emailing this address, you understand that we have a limited supply of 80 copies, and they will be sent out in the order that requests are received. There are no returns or refunds for these books. You understand that Legacy Icons and St. Ignatius Orthodox Press are not responsible for the delays or the misprinted color, as we have fulfilled all of our publishing responsibilities on time and according to every available instruction. Responsibility for the delays and misprinted color lie solely with the printing company.

Once again, we offer our sincerest apologies that we have not been able to fulfill your orders by the dates we promised. We understand if any customer wishes to cancel their order for a full refund at this point.
But if you can bear with us a little longer, we do believe the wait will be worth it, and all this frustration will melt away when you receive your correctly printed and beautiful book of the Holy Gospels.

Just as we posted this blog, we received confirmation that the revised master file will print the erroneous pages with the correct red color. This is great news and we pray it will enable a speedy delivery of the corrected books.
We are happy to report that, currently, our expected delivery date is 3 weeks earlier than the last estimate we received. As of today, we could receive the corrected Gospel Books as soon as within 7-10 days.
We have secured complimentary shrink wrap—for extra protection and a necessity for bookstores—for the inconvenience of the delays, but that will add a couple days to the process. We are still well ahead of the initial updated delivery date.
